Looking out for number one

The society we live in is a “dog eat dog” world. Everyone is out for themselves. People help others because there’s something in it for them. And I’m probably speaking from an extremely naive perspective but it’s almost depressing this way of life. People are not going to simply help you out of the kindness of their heart. There are benefits and motives involved. The first concern is ultimately themselves and their interests.  Self preservation and security.

Recently, I came across a situation in which it truly dawned upon me that even the most morally upright and nicest seeming person is not going to help you unless it benefits them. There’s a darker side to people and in order to reach the top, you have to step on those at the bottom. You’re not working against others but you’re working for yourself. This is the harsh reality of life.
